Little Women's Dad

Well, I went to a funeral last week for a dear friend's father. He had four precious girls, and three grandchildren all under the age of 2. It was heart wrenching to see those young ladies. I spent the night at their house countless times growing up, and their dad was such a sweet, compassionate man!

The two oldest girls lost their mom to cancer when they were little, so it is crazy that they have now lost their dad. He was in great shape since he was a runner, and as he was running around White Rock Lake, he collapsed with heart trouble. By the grace of God another runner who frequently ran with him found him, and they rushed him to the hospital. He was in surgery for seven hours, but then his organs began to shut down. He was in his 50s.

Every time I think about it I cry for those girls and their mom. It is such a wake up call that life is short. I just went home after the funeral and wanted to be with my husband and daughter. We are so blessed to be surrounded by people who love us. Let us not waste a moment! Praise God that he was a believer and those girls will be reunited with their father.

My favorite story they told at the funeral was when the youngest daughter wanted to learn to play softball. He kept pitching her the ball in the front yard, and she just couldn't make contact with that ball. Finally she did hit it- right into the living room window. Her dad's response, "YOU DID IT!"

How wonderful those girls had their precious dad. Their mom said, "I'm not bitter. I'm just thankful for twenty wonderful years that I had with him."

Starbucks Hick

Ok, so I am working at Starbucks on weekends to help support the stay-at-home mom-ness and this guy came in on Saturday, and he was HYSTERICAL!

He was a cowboy through and through with the tight jeans, hat, huge belt, you get the idea. He came in with his girlfriend and had never been inside a Starbucks before, which is always fun.

His girlfriend ordered a Pumpkin Spice Latte, and he replied, "What the hell is that?!" She told him he could order a cold coffee if he wanted and he said, "What the *%&#?! Cold coffee?! If you're going to have coffee put it on the *$&# fire and let it percolate for crying out loud!" I was trying VERY hard not to laugh at this point. He said, "Hey miss, I want that drink that tastes like an orange pushup pop. You know what I'm saying?" We got him a Orange Cream Frappacino and his girlfriend's drink, and I said that'll be $7.47. He exclaimed, "What the &%$&?! That as much as I paid for my *#$%& plane ticket!" He did pay for the drinks, and as he left all the baristas died laughing. I guess Starbucks is a bit much your first time around!

Ways she's like Dada:
1. Loves to put things together and take them apart
2. Has a ridiculous amount of patience- it takes a lot to get her upset
3. She's very laid back. She hardly ever crys!
4. She has his face (minus the facial hair). It's almost creepy!

Ways she like Mama:
1. She has my walk. Yes, she can't help but shake the rump- it's in the genes. Can I say that? Is she going to be embarrassed later?
2. She walks around the living room with her purse on her wrist, baby in one arm, fake cell phone in the other saying, "Heellllooo?!" really loudly.
3. She loves Jared more than anything or anyone.
4. She has my skin coloring and hair. Poor girl will be blow drying for a long time, and she can forget about ever getting a tan!
